Rain rain go away, come again in a month or so... I feel like we've been transplanted to Forks, Washington. We've had rain daily for the last couple of weeks. Every day the forecast is the same: thunderstorms for the next two to three days, then clearing. For two weeks that has been the forecast. Unfortunately the power flickers with every thunderstorm which makes writing on the internet problematic.
The "garden"
Last Friday the deluge stopped long enough for Chris to finish adding fill to the garage. The dump truck got stuck in the area where the water line had been trenched and refilled. When the truck managed to get out, his next trip was for a load of "pit run" gravel for the middle of the swamp.
We've had lumber drops on Tuesday and Thursday. Jen watched the latter: he dumped his load as fast as he could and spun mud trenches all the way out. Probably lucky to get out at all. The framers have managed to get the base plates on around the perimeter, and mark out the basement walls.
We met with Cary Allred, designer, on Monday at Patrick's home (Cary's favorite cabinet maker) in Perry Utah. We're a little nervous about getting all of the materials/colors to work together. We appreciate the input from everyone, but architects, designers, and builders all come at a project from different directions. Hopefully, here in the middle, we'll have the wisdom to build a home that exceeds what we could have created on our own and stay WITHIN budget.
It's a little disturbing how often people seem to think staying within budget while building a home is laughable. I'm trying (and failing) to have a sense of humor about it.
