Friday, June 26th, more exterior walls. Also joined garage to house with two large beams.

Sometime today I noticed that we are are framing 16" on center for the exterior walls. 24" would have given more space for insulation and less wood. What's the energy difference? A 2x6 has an R value of 7-8 (depending on whose numbers you use). The same depth (5.5 inches thick) of wet-blown cellulose insulation in a wall has an R value of 19-20.

We will sheath the exterior with 1" polyiso foam that has an R value of about 6. This helps with the "thermal bridging" of the stick frame walls. But less wood would have been better still...
